           PRE-SCHOOL

MESSY AREA - The children explore various textures and colours.  They learn how to use tools for specific purposes.  They also develop social skills, language skills and physical skills.

HOME CORNER/ROLE PLAY

The children develop their imagination and take on different roles, based on their own experiences.  They develop social and language skills.

SNACK/LUNCH AREA

The children deevelop their social skills, language skills and physical skills.  They are able to listen to each other and share stories.  They build relationships and begin to notice similarities and differences between them and their friends. 

BOOK CORNER

The children build their language and literacy skills.  They share favourite stories and talk about the characters.  They also gain an understandng about words and that words carry a meaning eg.  The words tell them about the story.

 

 

MARK MAKING

The children can use a variety of pens,pencils,crayons.  They develop fine motor skills and literacy skills.  The begin to understand that they can make marks for a meaning eg.  They may write a letter, a party invitation, a birthday card.  This is an early form of writing.

 

 

COMMUNICATION FRIENDLY SPACE

This area is small and enclosed.  It provides an area for children to sit with a small group or by themselves, so that they can explore a favourite story or to just talk to their friends.  It develops language skills and is to support children who are a little quieter and less confident.

 

 

 

MATHS

The children develop knowledge about numbers and quantities.  They also explore shapes and measures and develop their knowledge of positional language.
