Mid Summer Term 2018 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hatching Chicks

As mentioned in our previous Newsletter we have now confirmed the dates for arrival of the incubator and eggs for hatching chicks in Nursery.  These are arriving on Monday 18th June 2018 and will remain with us until Friday 29th June 2018.  All children will be sharing the experience of observing the eggs and watching the chicks hatch and help to care for the chicks.

Butterfly Garden

After the Half Term we are also going to have a Butterfly Garden in each room.    The kits are designed specifically for classrooms.  This enables to children to witness the wonders of the butterfly life cycle.   The children will be releasing them at the end of term.

These experiences cover all areas of the EYFS.

School Leavers Party and Graduation

This will take place on Wednesday, 11th July 2018.  The party starts at 3.30pm-4.30pm.  Following the party the parents/carers/family are all invited to a short Graduation ceremony where your child will be presented with their Leavers Certificate.

During the week commencing 18th June 2018 your child will have their graduation photograph taken.  These will be available for you to purchase prior to the Graduation Ceremony.

Inspire Evening

This will take place on Tuesday 3rd July 2018 from 5.00pm – 6.00pm.  This is for all children moving from the Sunbeams Room (including the Lower Pre-School children) to the Pre-School room.  This will give you the opportunity to meet your child’s new keyworker,  voice any concerns and look at the environment of the the Pre-School room.   Could you please let your child’s current keyworker know if you would like to attend.

Key Workers

Each child will have a key worker who will take time to form a special relationship with your child and be the first point of contact should you have any questions.    Staff are keen to work with you and your child to ensure that your child’s time at Nursery is the best that it can be.

Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or key worker.  The key worker will help your child to become familiar with the provision and to feel confident and safe whilst developing a genuine bond with the child and child’s parents/carers.

What’s new……?

Change of Name – From the start of this term we have reverted back to Atherton Pre-School Day Care Limited.   The Tesco web site for the logo uniform has been changed.  Wendys in Tyldesley will be contacted to change their logo too.  Existing children can continue to use the previous logo uniform.

Occupancy – As more of our children are accessing 30 hour funding spaces in Pre-School have become limited.  We are therefore looking to extend the Pre-School room to make more sessions available.  Planning permission has been approved.  We are now seeking the funding to enable this to happen.

Wider Safeguarding – Keeping Children Safe

All information regarding Wider Safeguarding is displayed on the Wider Safeguarding Board in the entrance foyer of the Community Centre.  It is updated regularly.  If you have any concerns please feel free to speak to Angela or Tracey.

Sunscreen and Sun hats

We are hopeful for some sunshine this term so that the children can play outdoors, get some fresh air and let off some steam!!  We do have factor 50 sunscreen which we will apply to the children if the sun is shining.  However, if you would prefer for us to use your own sunscreen then please ensure this is in your child’s bag and let your child’s Keyworker know it is there.  Could we ask that you send your child to Nursery with a sun hat, clearly marked with their name.

Uniform for Pre-School children

Boys:  Grey trousers or shorts, yellow polo shirt, navy blue jumper/sweatshirt

Girls:  Grey pinafore, skirts or trousers, yellow polo shirt, navy blue, cardigan/jumper/sweatshirt, yellow summer dress

Uniform is optional for the Sunbeams room

30 hours funding

If you think you will qualify for 30 hours of funding please let us know in advance to that we can reserve you additional sessions.    If you have any questions regarding this then please call into the office and speak with Angela or Dawn.

Healthy Eating

We continue to promote Healthy Eating for our children and have added cucumber, melon and toast to the choices available for snack time (apple, banana, melon, toast, cucumber).

You may have noticed just inside the community centre there is a table of food, snacks, fruit, vegetables and drinks.  Fur Clemt is a local term meaning “Very Hungry” and is the name chosen by Wigan’s real junk food project ensuring wasted foot reaches our community.  The items are delivered to us on Wednesday afternoons and are put on on Thursday mornings until Friday afternoons.  They are usually short best before products .  Fur Clemt ask that you donate what you can for the products that you take.  There is a donation box on the table.

Please ensure that you remain with your children in the foyer area prior to the nursery sessions.  It is unsafe to allow your children to run up and down the corridor and up and down the stairs and the sloped access to the hall.

Please check our website for all current events and updates.  We will put a link on our Facebook page to all new updates.
